U.S. Pluto probe Plutonian Explorer sent back amazing images of the surface of Pluto just prior to its planned crash landing into the surface of the planet. The wide variation of color evidenced by these photos has scientists scratching their heads and reassessing their theories about the nature of Pluto's surface.
Prior to Plutonian Explorer's revelations, most scientists had maintained that Pluto was an extremely cold planet by virtue of its distance from our solar system's sun. But Explorer's photos, which reveal brilliant colors on the planet's surface, indicate that there is in all likelihood plant life on Pluto. As such vibrant plant life would be impossible under the temperature conditions posited before, scientists are now hypothesizing internal heat sources at Pluto's core that effectively heat the planet's surface.
